DRURY STUDENTS BRING ‘ZOMBIE PROM’ TO LIFE IN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP

NORTH ADAMS, MA—With a show of resilience and heart, the students of Drury Stage Company are bringing the rockin’ off-Broadway hit Zombie Prom to the stage of the Drury Performing Arts Center (DPAC) with three performances.

This spring, students are taking the lead with unwavering commitment. With the help of a supportive community, they’re working together to display impressive student leadership.

“Drury theater is and always has been a family, and we do whatever it takes!” said 11th grade student Vane Jacobs, serving as student director.

Zombie Prom is a zany and heartfelt musical set in a 1950s high school where teen love and radioactive mishaps collide. It's a perfect match for the spirited and determined students who’ve taken creative ownership of the production. In addition to acting, many students are working behind the scenes in technical roles, costuming, set building, stage management, and more.

The students have not been alone in their mission to create this multifaceted performance. A devoted team of community members, school, and district personnel are mentoring and guiding the young cast and crew as they bring the show to life.

“This fast-paced show is musically challenging,” said Leslie Appleget, District Arts and Communications Coordinator, also serving as production manager and producer of Zombie Prom. “Our students have risen to the challenge with remarkable dedication, commitment, and talent.”

Stephanie Kopala, Drury High School principal, added, “I am so proud of our students. They are leading with determination and heart, demonstrating the true spirit of our Portrait of a Graduate competencies as responsible individuals, compassionate collaborators, and lifelong learners to create a memorable performance.”

For the second year running, Drury Stage Company has partnered with the district’s 21st Century Afterschool Program to present performances in both the fall and spring semesters.

Director of 21st Century Programs, Dr. Annie Pecor shared, “Without strong, unwavering student leadership this production would have been difficult to achieve. When student voice is met with dedicated educators elevating student ownership, magic happens.”

Zombie Prom will be performed Friday, April 11th at 7 PM, and Saturday, April 12th, at both 2 PM and 7 PM. Proceeds from ticket sales will support future Drury Stage Company performances at DPAC. Tickets, which cost $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults, will be available at the door.

While Zombie Prom contains content suitable for young adult audiences, attendees are encouraged to consider the maturity level of children elementary-age and younger before bringing them to the show. The production is appropriate for high school-aged students and older, but may not be suitable for younger audiences.
