NORTH ADAMS PUBLIC SCHOOLS AWARDED $105,995 GRANT TO SUPPORT STUDENT CAREERS IN LIFE SCIENCES

North Adams, MA — North Adams Public Schools has been awarded a $105,995 grant as part of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s (MLSC) STEM Equipment and Professional Development Grant Program. This funding is part of a $12.7 million investment announced by the Healey-Driscoll Administration to strengthen STEM education and workforce development across the Commonwealth.

“The life sciences are a cornerstone of our economy, and the industry’s continued growth depends on cultivating the next generation of talent across every region of the Commonwealth,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “These grants strengthen the connection between STEM education and industry needs, ensuring Massachusetts remains a leader in life sciences workforce development for years to come.”

The grant will enable North Adams Public Schools to purchase advanced lab equipment, materials, and technology, and provide professional development opportunities for teachers. These resources will help prepare students for meaningful careers in the life sciences by supporting industry-aligned training and advanced curricula implementation.

“By equipping schools with cutting-edge lab equipment and supporting industry-aligned training programs, we are providing students at every level with the tools and guidance they need to pursue meaningful careers in the life sciences,” said MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor, MD.

Superintendent Dr. Tim Callahan expressed enthusiasm about the award, stating, “This grant is a tremendous opportunity for our students and educators. It will enhance our Early College science programs and ensure our students have access to the latest technology and resources to succeed in life sciences careers.”

Principal Stephanie Kopala added, “We are excited to integrate this new equipment and training into our classrooms. It will empower our teachers and inspire our students to explore and excel in STEM fields, opening doors to future opportunities.”

This award is part of a broader initiative serving nearly 56,000 students in 131 schools statewide, with professional development opportunities for over 320 teachers. North Adams Public Schools is proud to be part of this important investment in the future life sciences workforce.
