Formation of the Northern Berkshire Educational Collab Steering Committee

The Chair of the North Adams School Committee, Mayor Jennifer Macksey, is seeking interested individuals to serve on the Northern Berkshire Educational Collaborative Steering Committee, a multi-year collaborative process.

The commitment of committee members will include approximately one (1) meeting per month, with additional work in between. The initial work commitment is expected to remain in place for a minimum of one (1) year. The Northern Berkshire Educational Collaborative Steering Committee will include representatives from each of the following districts/unions:

  • Hoosac Valley Regional School District

  • Mount Greylock Regional School District

  • North Adams Public Schools

  • Northern Berkshire School Union.


Each School Committee will appoint four (4) voting members to the Steering Committee. When forming their delegations, School Committees will consider:

  • Representation from their School Committee(s)

  • Representation from their town or municipal government

  • Representation from each town or city in their district.

  • Superintendents from each participating school district will serve ex officio as non‑voting advisory members.

Process Specific to North Adams

The Chair of the North Adams School Committee will designate the four (4) voting members to the Steering Committee after soliciting letters of interest. Interested candidates should submit letters of interest by Friday, December 5th, 2025.

Purview of the Northern Berkshire Educational Collaborative Steering Committee 

The Steering Committee will be responsible for:

  • Selecting the vendor to conduct an exploratory study

  • Analyzing results of the exploratory study

  • Managing and procuring financial earmarks dedicated to the Collaborative’s work

  • Establishing and maintaining communication between the Collaborative and the broader Northern Berkshire Community

  • Making recommendations regarding regionalization and/or collaborations to member School Committees and towns for eventual vote
